A Birthday Surprise

My boyfriend and I have been in a long distance relationship, spanning from Minnesota to New York, for quite some time now; and sadly sometimes spending a birthday alone is part of the package. We met 8 years ago, back when I was 14 years old and he was 15, and he has been the love of my life ever since. Over the years long distance has its ups and downs,and seeing each other once a month, at most, can be very wearing on a relationship. When we cannot be together, because of college, the holidays can be a very challenging time. Everyone else is around his or her loved ones celebrating the holidays together. My birthday happens to fall one week before Christmas, so it is even harder! So this past December, as usual, our schedules did not match up and we were not planning to see each other until well into January. This really put a damper on my holidays and I couldn’t wait until they were over so I could see him. The day of my birthday came and I was doing my daily normal routine and I received a call from my neighbor asking if I could watch her little 3 year old while she ran to the store for a half hour. Since I had nothing planned until later I threw on a coat and headed outside. As I walked out my front door there was my boyfriend in my driveway holding a package! It didn’t even matter what was inside the box I was so glad to see him, but what was inside was a beautiful diamond heart shaped necklace from Zales. Needless to say it was the best birthday ever and I wear the necklace everyday! My birthday surprise was a great way to end a good year and start an even better one; we both graduate in May and can finally end the long distance and live together!.
