A Very Special Valentine's Day
Blondie32 from Chicago, IL

Last year on Valentine's Day my boyfriend took me out to dinner. Unfortunately, when it comes to Valentine's Day, if you don't have reservation you won't be getting a table at any restaurants, and since we didn't think ahead to make any reservations that was exactly what happened. So we did what any other eighteen year olds would do in such a situation; we went to Potbelly's to get sandwiches. This was fine with me, but I could tell that my boyfriend was disappointed.

"It's not a big deal. We'll go out to dinner some other time," I reassured him with a smile. But later on he still seemed unhappy, so I asked him why he was so upset.

"I just really wanted to take you someplace nice so it’d be more special when I gave you this." Then he handed me a card. It read:

"Now, I don’t know all that much about using words, but I do know that I love you. And I hope you look at your hand every day and remember that."

When I looked up from the card, he handed me a small black, velvet box. I couldn't help but smile when I opened it up to reveal the little white gold and diamond promise ring inside.

"It's beautiful," I told him, "and you didn’t need to take me to a fancy restaurant to make it special." We both smiled. "Happy Valentine’s Day," he said. I reached across the table and kissed him.

I've worn that ring everyday since the day he gave it to me. And every day I look down at my hand and remember that he loves me.
